Technology has always had a role in modern music-production environments, but advances over the last ten years or so has seen it being increasingly used as part of the creative process, rather than just for capturing and editing performances. Now, anyone with a computer and the appropriate software can create entire orchestral scores or build complex and accurate rhythm tracks without knowing one end of a drumstick from the other.
