Composers of groove-based music will already know how vital delay is to their productions – at least as important as compression or reverb. But unlike dynamics processing – which affects the sound and balance – delay almost always contributes something musically as well as sonically. This is because it has the perceived effect of adding notes or instances of a sound to a part. As a result, it contributes greatly to the movement generated by those parts.
