FireWire audio interfaces with eight preamps are arriving at the MTM offices at such a rapid rate these days that we can hardly keep up with them. But apart from the obvious similarities, once you look more closely it’s surprising how much variation on a theme there really is as far as these devices are concerned. Take the Alesis iO|26, for example. Whereas most interfaces in this category are housed in a 1U rackmountable case, the iO|26 is a chunky desktop affair that wouldn’t look out of place sitting alongside your printer in an office environment.
