Garritan Libraries Jazz & Big Band

It’s been a long time coming, but the world’s first jazz and big band sample library for composers and educators has finally arrived. Keith Gemmell strikes up the band.

Price: £169.00
Manufacturer: Garritan Libraries

Have you ever heard a 17-piece big band in full swing? If you have, you’ll appreciate just how powerful that experience can be. Even during quiet passages, a truly great jazz orchestra conveys the sense of a caged tiger. The timbral varieties and playing nuances are many. And writing for such a beast, whether you’re a pro or a student, requires a great deal of musical imagination. You can’t just assemble 17 top-flight players at a moment’s notice every time you score a new phrase. Clearly, what’s needed is some form of auditory feedback in the form of a dedicated jazz sample library – but you try finding one.

Score: 9
