Despite a move towards mixing entirely ‘inside the box’, there still seems to be a large and dedicated number of users missing the integration, tactile interface and sound of a proper console. Indeed, you need only listen to a heated debate over the relative merits of analogue summing to realise that engineers haven’t quite shaken the role and sonic input of the console in the production process.
