Unless they are classically trained, most guitarists learn to play by ear, without learning how to read music. They start out strumming chords and learn their licks aurally, often copying solos from recordings. The lack of reading skills, of course, doesn’t matter when performing head arrangements. After all, music stands are rarely seen at the average folk, rock or jazz concert.
