Mackie SA1521z

Mackie has teamed up with EAW to produce these precision tuned loudspeakers. Mike Hillier gets an ear-bashing...

Manufacturer: Mackie
Website: http://www.mackie.com

Poor PA systems can ruin even the best gigs, and it can take an extremely talented sound engineer to coax something approaching decent sound quality out of them. Good PA systems, on the other hand, are easy to use and enable the engineer to reproduce a band’s live sound quickly and efficiently. In the real world, of course, there are many other factors that need to come together to make a great performance, but PA loudspeakers are an essential factor in the equation. Over the past few years, active loudspeakers have begun to replace passive loudspeakers for many small venues and PA hire companies. There are both advantages and disadvantages to this, and while large PA rigs are still the domain of passive systems, smaller venues are able to take advantage of active loudspeakers.

Score: 9
